Roots Soda co. Dear Bank advert.

OVER THE LAST MONTH WE’VE BEEN PRETTY QUIET AT ROOTS SODA COMPANY. IT HAS DEFINITELY BEEN ONE OF OUR MOST INTENSE PERIODS. GETTING PAST IT THOUGH, IT FEELS LIKE WE’VE FINALLY HAD A FEW BREAK THROUGHS.

It’s no secret that we’ve had endless problems with our bottling machine since we purchased it last year. In March this year we finally got it up and running. Life was good for a while but just when we started to reach a period of real intensity at Roots Soda Company, it decided to break down on us again.

It took a while to find and resolve the fault. Once again, we had to open up the machine. The entire pneumatic circuit had to be sketched out and understood. Italian parts had to be translated and understood. A new pneumatic circuit was designed and installed, based on research about higher spec machines. While we were at it, other things like the non-return valve (that returned) were stripped and repaired.

I’d long ago resigned myself to the fact that our bottling machine would never operate as advertised, however, when it was finally restarted it surpassed all expectations. Overnight our bottling output doubled. Even though it ran previously, it was extremely temperamental, requiring intense concentration. Lapses in concentration, even for a millisecond, and soda would be foaming out everywhere. Now each bottle popped out perfect, and we could operate it without having to think. What was going on? It was bizarre, we’d gone from a non working machine that threatened to put us under, to a working machine, albeit poorly, to a non working machine again that again threatened to put us under, to a perfect machine?! The universe works in mysterious ways indeed.

During this time we got the opportunity to sell out and start advertising. As you can imagine; we bit their hands off. Well, we did an advert for our very supportive, and good friends at Greencity Wholesale. It’s that there advert at the top of this post and we’re looking forward to seeing it in their new catalogue. If you are a stockist who’d like to stock our soda, you can get our pop through them. They deliver throughout Scotland and the North East of England.

We’ve started to gather a little pace when it comes to new stockists and you’ll be hearing about them all soon. We’re looking to add to our team again and this time we’d like to find a brewer who’d like to try their hand at the art of fizz. I know what you might be thinking… soda or beer, but I think about it’s a pretty good opportunity, we want to change the world of soda and we believe to do that all options need to be on the table, for the right person you’ll get the chance to experiment with new soda ideas like crazy. You’ll also get the opportunity to join Roots Soda Co. nice and early, it’s an opportunity to make production here your own. Full details for the vacancy are listed below.

Finally, we’ve been feeling a little braver day by day. We’re finding ourselves and our voice. We’re believing in ourselves more. We’re going to give it everything we’ve got to see if we can blow the great soda revolution up in the coming months.

Whatever it takes
Mark

BREWER FOR SODA WORKS

Roots Soda Co. has had a good start to 2015. We’ve expanded our stockists and increased our production and now we are looking for someone to head up our production facility and aid with the development of new products and processes.

We use mostly brewing equipment so brewing experience or knowledge of brewing equipment (commercial or home brew) would be ideal. An in-depth knowledge of craft soda is not necessary - it barely exists - and we will provide training. Most importantly we are looking for someone with a passion for food and drink, who is well organised, highly motivated and adaptable, with a full, clean UK driving license.

As we are a small start-up company, you will be working closely with our MD to research, develop and produce new sodas for Roots Soda Co. to launch in the coming months. Other day-to-day responsibilities will include all of the administration, stock-taking and preparation necessary for production; managing the whole production process; maintaining, cleaning and sanitising the machinery; and the odd delivery run.

This is a full-time position of forty hours per week, based at our HQ in Granton, Edinburgh.

Salary will be £20,000 per annum.

If you would like to apply for the post please email your CV and covering letter to jobs@rootssoda.co.uk.

Closing date for applicants 11th September for an October start.
